In the bottom of the third inning, the Shockers were able to knot the game at 3-3 as they plated runs on a RBI ground out by first baseman Derek Schermerhorn and a run-scoring single by designated hitter Danny Jackson.

Corley responded to retire 10 straight batters at one point and keep the Shockers off the scoreboard for the next 3 2/3 innings. The Mill Valley, Kan., native finished the game with 6 2/3 innings pitched and allowed only two earned runs while collecting a career-high seven strikeouts.

The Jayhawks pushed across the go-ahead run and an insurance tally in the top of the ninth inning to open a 5-3 advantage. Senior Andy Scholl, who entered the game in the seventh inning in the designated hitter spot, swung and missed at a pitch with two-strike count, but the ball bounced away from the catcher allowing Scholl to reach first safely and Richardson to come home with the eventual game-winning run.
