Kansas Freshman Robbins Invited to Canadian National Team Camp

May 6, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas freshman midfielder Sarah Robbins has been invited to attend the U-20 Canadian National Team Camp next weekend in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The four-day camp is the first step in Team Canada’s process of filling its roster for the 2012 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“This will be my first national team camp, so I’m really excited about that,” said Robbins. “In athletics, there is really nothing better than representing your country; and it’s been a goal of mine since I started playing soccer to be able to play at the national level.”

Robbins played in all 22 matches as a freshman last season for KU, making 13 starts in the midfield. She recorded a goal and an assist in 1,123 minutes on the field. She participated in all five exhibition contests during the Jayhawks’ 2010 spring season.

“I’m excited for her,” Kansas head coach Mark Francis said. “I thought she had a great season for us, and hopefully her experience is something she can use at the camp.”

Robbins will leave for Toronto following her last final on Wednesday, May 12 and begin the camp process. It is likely that Robbins will participate in future U-20 National Team Camps later this summer as well.
