Ellrich Named to Academic All-District First Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Senior infielder Justin Ellrich has been selected to the Academic All-District 7 First Team, which is presented by ESPN the Magazine. This marks the second straight year the KU senior has earned first team honors.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Ellrich, a senior from <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Manchester, Mo., is batting .313 this season with two homers, a double, a triple and seven RBIs. The Kansas senior hit KU’s only pinch-hit home run of the season on April 5 in a game at Baylor. He also collected the only triple of his career on March 26 against Benedictine. His .313 batting average is a career high.

The Kansas senior is a chemical engineering major with a 3.90 GPA and was the only Jayhawk baseball player honored on the Academic All-District team.

Ellrich and the Jayhawks will face No. 14 Missouri this weekend in a three-game Big 12 series at Hoglund Ballpark. The series opens Friday at 6 p.m.
