Despite Loss, Jayhawks Headed to Big 12 Baseball Championship

May 8, 2009

COLUMBIA, Mo. –

Despite falling to Missouri 8-5 on Friday evening, the 23rd-ranked Kansas baseball clinched a berth to the Big 12 Baseball Championship by virtue of an Oklahoma State loss to Oklahoma. The Jayhawks, 12-10 in the Big 12, will be heading to Bricktown Ballpark for the first time since 2006, when Kansas won the title.

The Jayhawks finished ninth in both 2007 and 2008, but will enter the Big 12 Baseball Championship – which begins May 20 in Oklahoma City – having won four straight, including a 9-7 triumph over Nebraska in the 2006 title game.

KU (12-10) will continue its series against Missouri in Columbia Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at Simmons Field. The game will be broadcast on KLWN (1320 AM).
