DALLAS –

Junior shortstop Destiny Frankenstein (Broken Arrow, Okla.) was named Big 12 Player of the Week for her performance May 2-8, the conference office announced Tuesday. The honor is Frankenstein’s first of her career at the University of Kansas.

Frankenstein led the Jayhawks to a 2-1 record, including a sweep over Iowa State (9-4, 4-2) in their regular season series finale over the weekend. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native posted a .600 batting average with a 1.100 slugging percentage last week.

Frankenstein went 4-for-4, tying a career high, while recording two doubles at the plate against the Cyclones on Saturday. On the week, she was 6-for-10 and tallied a home run, 11 total bases and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

In addition, Frankenstein leads the Jayhawks this season in batting average (.371), runs (36), hits (53), home runs (14), total bases (106), slugging percentage (.741), walks (22), on-base percentage (.458) and assists (111).

With her 13th home run of the year at Texas Tech on May 1, Frankenstein shattered the KU single-season home run record of 12 previously held by Leah Tabb (2001).

Frankenstein and the Jayhawks begin postseason play Thursday at the 2005 Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City. Sixth-seeded KU will face No. 3 Texas at 11 a.m. at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
