The Bears took a 5-0 lead after five innings and never looked back. Chris Johns (4-8) recorded the victory for UNC after coming in relief of starter Roy Allen who left the game with an apparent injury after keeping the Jayhawks off the board in the games first 3.2 innings.

Senior Ricky Fairchild (5-6) suffered the loss for Kansas. Fairchild fanned two batters but allowed five runs on eight hits.

Northern Colorado second baseman Jeff Horn gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with his first home run of the season in the third inning. UNC pushed across another run in the fourth inning courtesy of a Fairchild wild pitch. Brennan Garr scored on the play after leading off the inning with a double and moving to second on a single.

UNC’s Seth Tartler put the Bears ahead 3-0 when he hit Fairchild’s first offering of the fifth inning over the left field fence. The homer was Tartler’s second of the season. Northern Colorado added two more runs off a double from Kevin Sandberg to cap the three run frame.

Sophomore Ryne Price put Kansas on the scoreboard with a solo homer in the fifth inning. The long ball was Price’s second of the weekend and fifth of the season.

Kansas then loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning but managed a lone run on a Preston Land sacrifice fly.

Northern Colorado plated two runs in the eighth inning with a bases loaded infield single and a wild pitch.

KU attempted to rally in its half of the eighth and pushed across two runs in the frame before UNC threw out Ryne Price at home plate for the innings third out.

Tyler Person pitched a perfect ninth inning for Northern Colorado to pick up his third save of the season and preserve the victory for UNC.

KU left 10 men on base to UNC’s eight. Matt Baty, Jared Schweitzer and Erik Morrison each had two hits on the day.

After defeating Bradley once Friday and again Saturday afternoon, KU finished the Jayhawk Classic, 2-2.
