Postgame Quotes

Kansas 4, Kansas State 5

May 14, 2010

Kansas junior pitcher T.J. Walz

On what happened during the sixth inning:

“I left some pitches up and they hit them. I threw a slider to (Nic) Martini and a curve ball to Kent (Urban).”

On if they were flat after last week’s emotional wins against Missouri:

“I don’t think there was. We had a week to get over it. We’re still pumped about that, but we knew this is a new series and a new job to do.”

On how he felt going into the sixth inning:

“I felt great going into it. Leadoff walks will kill you in a game.”

Kansas head coach Ritch Price

On the game:

“I think the difference in the game was that we couldn’t get out of the inning once T.J. got into trouble.”

On T.J. Walz:

“I was concerned about his pitch count. I knew he had a lot of 2-2 counts and 3-2 counts, which isn’t characteristic of him. I thought he battled well. In the four-spot inning (sixth), he left his breaking ball up and they jumped all over it.”

On Kansas relief pitcher Travis Blankeship:

“I thought he came in and did a nice job. We kicked the ball behind him and he still found a way to get out of trouble, and that’s what we need. We need him to attack hitters.”
