Maggie Hull Adds to 2012 Accolades, Named NFCA All-Region First Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior left fielder Maggie Hull continues to collect accolades for her record-breaking 2012 season as the Big 12’s batting leader was named First Team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday.
Hull is the first NFCA All-Region First Team selection from Kansas since former Jayhawk Serena Settlemier earned the distinction in 2006, the same year she was named the Big 12 Player of the Year. Last season, Hull earned NFCA All-Region Second Team honors as the Lawrence, Kan., native is building a name for herself within the Kansas program, in the Big 12 and on the national scene.
“We are very proud of Maggie and watching her work ethic pay off,” head coach Megan Smith said. “She was a leader for us all season and was a source of excellent consistency in one of the toughest conferences in the country. This award is well deserved and it’s great to see Jayhawks being nationally recognized.”
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and Hull is now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams. A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprise this season’s regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.
Earlier this week, Hull became the first Kansas softball player to earn All-Big 12 Conference First Team accolades since the 2006 season, was awarded her second Academic All-Big 12 First Team award and earned national exposure with her Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Award last week.
Hull was a highlight reel for the Jayhawks and the Big 12 all season. By finishing the regular season hitting a Big 12-best .409, Hull broke KU’s single-season batting average record – a milestone that stood in Kansas history since 1979 (Jill Larson, .400). Her .338 career average checks in at fifth all-time among Jayhawks.
Hull led the conference with 67 hits, seventh-most in KU history and crossed the plate 46 times, good for fourth in the Big 12. Her 46 runs tied another single-season KU record (Rose Rader, 1980). In the outfield, Hull was a constant, committing only two errors and tracking down 91 putouts in left field.
