Kansas Softball Announces 2012 Summer Camp Dates

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Megan Smith, her staff and the Kansas softball team will host three different camps this summer. All youth players interested in improving their skills on the field are encouraged to sign up and receive instruction from the Jayhawks.

ALL SKILLS CAMP – June 11-14
The All-Skills Camp is open to campers entering the 3rd – 8th grades. This camp is open to day campers only and will run from 9 AM to 4:30 PM.
This camp will cover the fundamentals of every facet of the game of softball including: hitting, bunting, base running, infield and outfield play, pitching, catching, and game competition. Campers will work on their fundamental skills and will train and develop at their specific position. Campers will participate in a strength and conditioning session and have their swings video analyzed.

Cost: $300

HIGH SCHOOL CAMP – JULY 16-19
The High School Camp is open to players entering the 9th-12th grades.
Campers will take part in a skills showcase on Monday and will be placed on competitive teams. Each team will be coached by a collegiate level coach for the entire week. Sessions will focus on individual skills and team concepts necessary for success at the high school/collegiate level. Campers will work at their specific positions and will participate in collegiate level hitting work-outs. The camp staff will include current KU coaches and players and several other college coaches from the region. Campers will participate in a strength and conditioning session, have their swing video analyzed, learn recruiting rules and strategies, and become familiar with collegiate academic standards.

Cost: Overnight – $400 | Commuter – $315

PITCHER/CATCHER CAMP – JULY 19-20
Pitcher/Catcher Camp is designed to reach all skill levels and is open to players entering the 3rd-12th grades.
PITCHERS:
Pitchers will work with collegiate coaches and players and will be divided by skill level. Topics that will be covered include: pitching mechanics, speed development, accuracy, learning and/or further developing movement pitches, and battery work. Advanced pitchers will also learn collegiate training techniques including mental training.

CATCHERS:
College coaches and players will train catchers on the following topics: blocking, receiving, throwing, calling pitches, and working with pitchers. Catchers will be divided by skill level to ensure maximum skill development.
