Some 3,600 granite pavers will surround the statue of KU basketball coaching legend Phog Allen at the entrance to the new Booth Family Hall of Athletics, now under construction on the east side of Allen Fieldhouse. Six-inch-square and 12-inch-square pavers, inscribed with the donor’s message, are available for a limited time. The smaller pavers require a donation of $350; the larger pavers require a donation of $600. All donations are tax-deductible; orders must be received by October 1, 2005.

“This was actually a suggestion made by several of the many devoted KU fans we spoke with as we began planning the Booth Family Hall of Athletics,” said Lew Perkins, KU athletics director. “They wanted a way to express in a permanent way the love they have for KU athletics. They felt this was the perfect way, and the perfect time, to do that, and we agree.”

The granite pavers will be produced by Hutton Monument Co. of Lawrence and Topeka.

More information will be available beginning Monday, May 23, by calling KU athletics at 785-864-7963, or by logging on to kuathletics.com.
