Former KU Players and Celebs to Roll Out for Good Cause

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Fourth Annual Rock Chalk Roundball Classic is set for Thursday, June 14, at 7 p.m., at the Free State High School gymnasium in Lawrence.

Approximately 30 former KU basketball players will return to Lawrence to help raise money for three local families fighting cancer. All three families have children battling cancer and two of the three kids also have a parent fighting this deadly disease.

ESPN SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett will emcee the event.

There will be a pregame concert beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a postgame autograph and pictures session, plus a chance to win a car at halftime from BriggsAuto.com.

The Rock Chalk Roundball Classic started revealing its participants on June 1 via facebook (facebook.com/rockchalkroundballclassic). Former players who will play in the event include Ron Kellogg, Keith Langford, Aaron Miles, Christian Moody, Brady Morningstar, Ryan Robertson, Russell Robinson, Wayne Simien, Darnell Valentine and Julian Wright.

The teams will be coached by former KU big men Bud Stallworth and Scot Pollard with Patrick Richey also roaming the sidelines. KU football coach Charlie Weis will be an honorary coach as well according to KLWN’s Brian Hanni, who has been the event director for the Rock Chalk Roundball Classic since its inception in 2009.

Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased prior to game day in Lawrence at the 23rd St. Brewery (3512 Clinton Parkway) and the Great Plains Media studios (3125 W. 6th St.) In Topeka, fans can buy tickets at AAA Travel Agency (1223 Wanamaker).
