Jayhawks in Summer Leagues Update #1

Throughout the summer, kuathletics.com will check in with the current Jayhawks, who are participating in summer baseball leagues throughout the country. Many of these leagues began in June and will play through the middle of August.
Junior outfielder Jason Brunansky is playing with the San Diego Waves of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association this summer. Brunansky has played in nine games thus far and is batting .250 with four doubles and a .357 on-base percentage. He has collected six hits in 24 at bats and has a team-best seven runs scored.
Sophomore catcher Alex DeLeon is playing with the Palm Springs Power Baseball team this summer. DeLeon has played eleven games this summer and is batting .316 with 12 hits, six doubles, and seven runs scored.
Sophomore infielder Jordan Dreiling is playing with the Hawaii Aliis of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Dreiling has made 10 starts for the Aliis and is batting .326 with 14 hits, nine RBIs and seven runs scored.
Sophomore outfielder Jacob Dunnichay is playing with the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Dunnichay has made nine starts and is batting .125 with five runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases.
Freshman infielder Kaiana Eldredge is also playing with the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Eldredge has played in nine games for the Paddlers and is leading the team in batting (.354). He also has 12 hits, 13 runs scored and three RBIs.
Junior first baseman Zac Elgie is playing for the San Luis-Obispo Blues in the California Collegiate League. Through 10 games, Elgie is batting .308 with four doubles, one homer and 11 RBIs. He has recorded a .487 slugging percentage along with a .325 on-base percentage. In his first week of action, Elgie was named CCL Player of the Week.
Freshman outfielder Alex Harris is also with the San Diego Waves this summer. Harris has played in three games for the Waves and gone 1-for-7 with a run scored.
Freshman catcher Tom Hougland is playing with the Waimea Waves of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Hougland has played in 10 games and is batting .281 with nine hits, five RBIs and five runs scored.
Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Jordan Jakubov is pitching with the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League. Jakubov has appeared in six games this season, striking out 12 batters and posting a 4.70 ERA.
Incoming freshman right-handed pitcher Robert Kahana is pitching with the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Kahana has made two starts for the Paddlers and is 2-0 with a 4.09 ERA. He has pitched 11 innings and allowed 15 hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Matt Kohurst is playing with the Terre Haute Rex baseball team of the Prospect League. Kohurst has appeared in five games this season striking out nine batters and posting a 3.65 ERA.
Sophomore infielder Kevin Kuntz is playing with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League this summer. Kuntz has played in 14 games this summer and is batting .262 with 11 hits, six runs scored and has drawn nine walks.
Redshirt sophomore infielder Jake Marasco is playing with the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League this summer. Marasco has played 20 games this summer and is batting .230 with four doubles, five RBIs and nine runs scored.
Junior first basemen Chris Manship is playing with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League this summer. Manship has played in 18 games this summer and is batting .344 with 22 hits, 11 RBIs, two home runs, and 10 runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher Tanner Poppe is playing with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Poppe has started one game this summer and is 1-0 after his first start. He gave up two hits and struck out five in six innings of work in his lone start.
Freshman pitcher Tyler Smith is playing with the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League this summer. Smith has started three games this summer and is 1-1 in those starts. He has posted 12 strikeouts with a 4.70 ERA.
Junior catcher James Stanfield is playing with the Kamuela Paniolos of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Stanfield has made eight starts for the Paniolos and is leading the team in batting (.545) and hits (18). He also has nine RBIs, three doubles and 10 runs scored.
Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Thomas Taylor is pitching for the Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods League this summer. Taylor has made three starts for the Stingers and gone 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA. He has pitched 16 innings and allowed 10 runs on 15 hits with five walks and 15 strikeouts.
