June 29, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas junior-to-be Jennifer Clark shot a final-day 75, the best round by any player in the tournament, to tie for second place at the Kansas City Women’s Golf Amateur this past weekend.

Clark is a Kansas City, Kan. native, who attended Piper High School. She shot a two-round total of 159 to finish just one shot behind Lacy Shelton of Overland Park.

Clark posted a 75 on the final day, a round which included three birdies on the Swope Memorial Golf Course. Clark was one-under par on her final round after 10 holes before closing with four pars and four bogeys to finish three-over par.

She struggled on the first day with an 84, but was just five shots off the pace set by Shelton and Whitney Pyle, who both registered rounds of 79. On the second day, Clark fired her 75, while Shelton held on for the one-stroke victory with her second straight 79.

Clark played in seven of KU’s 11 events this past season. She posted a runner-up finish at KU’s own Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational and then tied for 14th at the Johnie Imes Invitational for her top two finishes.
