June 29, 2012

MONTREAL, Canada – Kansas soccer rising senior Sarah Robbins has been invited to train in the U-20 Canadian National Team Camp. The Montreal, Quebec native was one of 24 players chosen and will look to make the final roster of 20 that will be selected for a two-week camp in Italy and Switzerland.

The six-day camp will run from July 3-8 at the Canadian National Training Center. Canada will play in two Women’s U-20 International Friendly matches in Europe, with a match against Italy on July 14 in Verbania, Italy and a match against Switzerland on July 20 in Buochs, Switzerland. Earlier this year, Canada qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Japan 2012 with a silver-medal performance at the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship. Canada will participate in its fifth FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup from August 19 to September 8.

“For Sarah to be selected as one of the top 24 players is already an honor,” said Mark Francis, who is entering his 14th season as head coach of the Jayhawks. “She has worked very hard this spring to elevate her game and she has been training at the national training center in Canada. She obviously did well to get an invite. We wish her the best of luck and hopefully she’ll be in Europe next month.”

A midfielder, Robbins was a pool player for the 2008 Canadian U-17 World Cup team. At KU, she has appeared in 35 games with more than 1,500 minutes of field time.
