Cressy Leads Eagles SC to Club National Championship

July 13, 2010

CAMARILLO, Calif. –

Kansas junior forward Emily Cressy will lead the Eagles Soccer Club into the U-23 Adult Soccer Association finals in Overland Park, Kan., July 23-25. Eight teams have qualified for the U-23 championship, which will run concurrently with the U-14 through U-19 Youth National Championships at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.

Cressy’s group will be looking to become just the second team to win three national titles in the 31-year history of USA Youth and Adult Soccer Championships. The Eagles SC previously won national championships in 2004 with the U-14 age group and 2007 in the U-17 division, where Cressy was the Golden Boot winner – being named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tourney. Seven current members of the Eagles SC were a part of the previous two national titles.

The only other club team to win three national championships was the Colorado Rush (Littleton, Colo.), which won three consecutive titles (1999-2001), a decade ago.

Cressy, a junior from Ventura, Calif., led the Jayhawks with 12 goals and 27 points during the 2009 season. Her 12 goals tied for the second-highest total in team history, and were the most by a Jayhawk since Caroline Smith’s 19-goal campaign in 2003. The forward finished the season with a bang, scoring six goals in the team’s final seven contests, including the game-winner against No. 12 Missouri on Oct. 30.

The other teams participating in this year’s U-23 United States Adult Soccer Association Cup are the Arizona Rush (Tucson, Ariz.), D’Feeters (Farmer’s Branch, Texas), Woodbury SC (Woodbury, Minn.), FC Delco (Philadelphia, Penn.), Rochester Lazers (Rochester, N.Y.), Scott Gallagher SC (St. Louis, Mo.) and Dallas Premier (Dallas, Texas).
