July 17, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – A busy summer schedule for KU track and field athletes competing internationally continues this weekend as Crystal Manning and Jordan Scott take to Toluca, Mexico, for the 2008 NACAC Under-23 Track & Field Championships July 18-20.

Manning, who just completed her senior season for KU, and junior-to-be Scott will represent Team USA, whose roster was announced Wednesday by USA Track & Field.

The NACAC Athletic Association’s U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Manning will team with Tamara Highsmith, a University of Connecticut graduating senior, in the women’s triple jump. Scott and Clemson graduating senior Paul “Mitch” Greeley will look to lead the USA to victory in the men’s pole vault.

Manning won two All-America honors during this year’s outdoor track and field season (long jump and triple jump), one of just three women in KU history to do so. Scott earned a NCAA outdoor regional championship in the pole vault this season with a jump of 5.51 meters (18-01 ft.).
