LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Former University of Kansas volleyball player, Ashley Michaels (2001-04), will be heading to Europe next month to continue her volleyball career overseas.

Michaels has been playing overseas for two years now and made her first trip to Europe in August of 2005 to compete for France before playing for Spain in 2006 where she will play once again this year.

“I love living in Europe and getting the opportunity to continue playing volleyball,” said Michaels. “Its awesome to wake up knowing I’m living in Spain and my job is playing the sport I love.”

Michaels is a member of the CV Mazotti las Palmas GC volleyball team along with about nine to 12 other players from Europe. The team will gather in Spain in late August to begin practicing and training until October when the season begins. From there, Michaels and the team will play one game a week through May when the season ends.

“This has been an opportunity of a lifetime,” Michaels said. “I have met people from all over the world and made some great friends. The experience has really opened my eyes to different cultures and different ideas.”

Michaels, a two-time All-Big 12 honorable mention honoree, set KU single-season records in attack percentage (.363) and block assists (126) and also holds a KU career record with a .317 attack percentage.
