Three Jayhawks Still Alive at Kansas Amateur

LAWRENCE, KAN. –

Three members from last year’s NCAA Regional qualifying team have advanced to the round of 32 at the 97th Kansas Amateur in <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Topeka, Kan. Gary Woodland, Barrett Martens, and Patrick Roth advanced after winning their respective matches today.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Woodland, the number two seed, escaped his match after being taken to a playoff hole by his opponent, Tyler Lytton. Woodland will take on the 31st seed Tyler Trout in his next match.

Martens won his opening-round match very easily beating Andrew Manley by a score of 6&5. Martens will take on number 60 seed Dean Merrill in his next match.

Roth pulled off an upset in fine fashion defeating number three seed Joshua Weems by a score of 4&3. Roth will take on number 30 seed Matt Lazzo in his next match.

Zach Pederson was defeated in his match by Andy Smith by a score of 3&2.

Tomorrow’s play will consist of the round of 32 being completed in the morning, followed by the round of 16 being conducted in the afternoon. Each player must win each match to advance in the single-elimination tournament.
