LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas volleyball has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the fifth-straight year for achieving a 3.36 cumulative grade point average during the 2009-10 academic year.

The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

“This award represents a team effort along with our academic advisor Dr. Scott Ward and all of our great tutors and instructors here at KU,” said head coach Ray Bechard. “The players are motivated to succeed on the court and in the classroom and do an outstanding job of balancing their time. They truly understand the meaning of student-athlete.”

The Jayhawks were one of 94 NCAA Division I teams to earn the award and one of two Big 12 Conference teams named to the list (Oklahoma).
