Nate Barbee and Andrew Storm Advance to Quarterfinals at 2009 Kansas Amateur

MISSION HILLS, Kan. –

Nate Barbee and Andrew Storm both won two matches Friday at the 99th Kansas Amateur at Kansas City Country Club to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Barbee defeated number two seeded Dean Merrill 2&1 in his first match of the day and then knocked off Brad Boan by a score of 3&2. Barbee will face-off against Scott Willman Saturday morning in the quarterfinals. Barbee led the 2008-09 Kansas men’s golf team in both scoring average and top-20 finishes.

Recent graduate Andrew Storm knocked off incoming Kansas State golfer Curtis Yonke in his first match, 1-up. Storm then easily handled Charlie Stevens by a score of 4&3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Storm will meet Kansas State senior Joe Ida in the quarterfinals.

Former Jayhawk Conrad Roberts won his first match of the day by defeating Michael McDonnell 4&3 before dropping his third round match to Scott Wellman. Roberts played at KU from 1999-2000.

Senior Patrick Roth was upended in the third round by Jon Troutman by a score of 6&5. Roth was the runner-up at the 2008 Kansas Amateur.

The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be conducted on Saturday.
