Ex-KU Great Woodland Posts Top Five PGA Finish

July 31, 2011

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Former Kansas golf standout Gary Woodland posted his fifth top-five finish of the year, tying for fourth place, just one shot away from a playoff spot at the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic.

Woodland shot a final-round 69, which was one shot shy of a trio of players, who moved to an extra holes playoff. Scott Stallings claimed the individual title defeating Bill Haas and Bob Estes.

Woodland, a Topeka, Kan. native and 2007 Kansas graduate, was joined by four other players at nine-under par at the event.

Woodland managed three birdies on the back nine in the final round, but his one-under par score on Sunday was just short of making the playoff.
