Kansas Men's Golf Earns National Academic Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Success in the classroom was rewarded with a national award for the Kansas men’s golf team, which earned All-Academic honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.
To earn recognition a team must have a combined grade-point average of at least 3.0 for the academic year. KU was one of 59 Division I schools to receive the honors.
This season Jayhawk senior Nate Barbee was named an All-America Scholar for the second straight year by the GCAA. Barbee, fellow senior Jeff Bell and sophomore Alex Gutesha, all earned Academic All-Big 12 honors. Bell and Barbee were first-team picks, while Gutesha was a second-team honoree.
This past spring, the KU men’s golf team, coached by Kit Grove, posted a combined 3.28 grade-point average.
DePaul was named the national championship team for the second straight year as the Blue Demons registered a 3.66 team GPA in 2011.
