Aug. 7, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following her first career All-Big 12 nod in 2011, redshirt junior Caroline Jarmoc was named to the 2012 edition of the Conference’s volleyball preseason team by the league office Tuesday afternoon. With an impressive 1.25 blocks per set, Jarmoc ranked second in the league in blocking at the conclusion of the 2011 season, trailing only Sallie McLaurin of Oklahoma – another 2012 preseason team member. “We’re very excited about Caroline and her potential to be even better this season,” head coach Ray Bechard said. “This is a well-deserved honor and we’re very pleased for her. She will provide leadership both vocally and by the intensity she brings to the floor and is definitely one of our players to watch this season.” The Calgary, Alberta, Canada, native appeared on several of the Big 12’s top-10 lists last season, including attack percentage (.311), kills (2.92 kills per set), points (3.93 points per set) and checked in at second in service aces (0.28 aces per set). In her own program, Jarmoc begins 2012 sitting at second all-time at KU in career blocks per set (1.12) after tying for third all-time on KU’s single-season block assists list in 2011 (115). A dominate force both offensively and defensively, Jarmoc ranks second all-time at Kansas in career attack percentage (.289). Last season, Jarmoc teamed with Tayler Tolefree, a senior in 2012, to bring the Jayhawk defense at the net to an elevated level. As a unit, KU ranked among the league’s top three teams in blocks per set all season long. The Jayhawks finished the regular season third in the conference with 2.57 blocks per set, good for 36th in the NCAA. The Jayhawks recorded nearly 100 more block assists than the previous year and for the first time since Bechard’s debut season in 1998, Kansas out-blocked its opponents (2.6 bps/2.0 bps). A two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week last fall, Jarmoc also received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region Honorable Mention honors in 2011. The award marked the first time a Jayhawk appeared on an AVCA All-Region list since Josi Lima in 2003.
