KU's Laptad Named To Preseason Hendricks Award Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior defensive end Jake Laptad was named as one of 36 preseason candidates for the 2010 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award it was announced Tuesday.

The award, which began in 2002, is awarded to college football’s top defensive end and is named after three-time first-team All-American Ted Hendricks, who played collegiately at Miami before spending 15 years in the National Football League.

Laptad, a 6-4, 260-pounder from Tulsa, Okla., is one of six Big 12 players on the list. Last season Laptad was added to the award’s watch list during the season. The 2009 award was won by Jerry Hughes of TCU.

In 2009 Laptad earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors and was named KU’s Ray Evans Award winner as the team’s defensive most valuable player. He finished the year with 49 tackles with 12 tackles for loss, including 6.5 sacks.

In three years at Kansas, Laptad has registered 107 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, including 16.5 sacks.
