BRISBANE, Australia –

Sophomore Danielle McCray Blogs From Down Under: We woke up today (Saturday) at 7 a.m., but for those in Kansas, it was only 4 p.m., Friday afternoon. We ate breakfast, which was really good, and loaded the bus for the Crocodile Hunter’s Zoo at 8 a.m.

While at the zoo, we all split up and explored different animals. We walked around for about three hours looking at all the different Australian creatures. This was pretty cool. The thing I enjoyed most was petting the koalas and kangaroos. We took lots of pictures. I have never been so close to these animals. We also had a chance to feed the elephants, which was pretty neat.

At 11 a.m., we all gathered and watched the Croc Show, which had snakes, birds, elephants and of course one big huge crocodile named Graham. We all had fun. Katie Smith was a lucky one who got chosen to demonstrate some bird calls. We all had a huge laugh at her expense. After the show, we looked at some more animals before loading the bus to head back to Brisbane for our pre-game meal. I ate at Jo-Jo’s for the third time since we got to Brisbane and for the third time I had the Thai Chicken. I love it! Now its off for treatment before our game with Logan Red…Rock Chalk Jayhawk #4 Danielle McCray

Assistant Coach Kyra Elzy Blogs From Down Under: Life doesn’t get much better than this. I’m in Australia enjoying spending quality time with the staff and players. It just happens to be a bonus that their winters include sunshine (I get to wear shades and sunscreen)!

I was in heaven yesterday! We hit the beach at “Surfer’s Paradise.” I walked in the beautiful sand as the cold water hit my feet. It was a very relaxing day. I vow to myself–I will live at the beach when I retire from the game (smiles)!

I conquered my fears today at the Australian Zoo. I actually held a Koala bear long enough to take a picture. I have to admit, I did chicken out on the first try, but had to redeem myself (the staff was watching)! I also took a picture with a kangaroo. We are doing it over here!

We played Kansas Basketball tonight! The girls were clicking today. Our team played like they had something to prove–had a sense of urgency. Maybe Coach Bonnie needs to tell them they are competing against an Olympian center every night! As my Aussie mates would say….No worries! Kyra Elzy
