Kansas Soccer To Hold Crimson and Blue Match Sunday

Aug. 13, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

In preparation for its first match of the season, the Kansas soccer team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The Jayhawks will be divided into two teams and will play a full 90-minute contest on the game field.

Fans will be admitted to the match free of charge and get their first look at the 2009 Jayhawks, who are coming off of an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Kansas returns 20 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished 13-8-2 overall and spent five weeks ranked in the Top 25. In the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) of last year, the Jayhawks were also receiving votes.

Three returning players, seniors Monica Dolinsky and Estelle Johnson and sophomore Emily Cressy, all earned All-Central Region honors in 2008, while Cressy was tabbed a Freshman All-American.

The team also features nine exciting newcomers including former Canadian National Team pool player Sarah Robbins and high school All-American Tori Baldridge.

KU will open the 2009 regular season on Sunday, Aug. 23 at Drake. Kickoff for the Jayhawks’ season opener is scheduled for 1 p.m.
