Jayhawks No. 25 In Associated Press Preseason Poll

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the second straight year the Kansas football team will enter the season ranked in the Associated Press preseason poll. The Jayhawks were listed 25th in the first poll of the year, which was released on Saturday.
Last year KU started the season ranked 14th by the AP. Prior to that, the last time KU was listed in the preseason poll was 1996 when the Jayhawks entered the year 25th.
This season marks the seventh time the Jayhawks will enter a year ranked in the top 25. Other AP preseason poll listings for KU include 17th in 1952, 8th in 1961, 12th in 1968 and 19th in 1976.
Kansas spent 18 consecutive weeks in the Associated Press poll during the 2007 and 2008 seasons as the Jayhawks racked up a 20-6 record and two consecutive bowl victories in 2007 and 2008. KU’s last time in the AP poll was Oct. 25, 2008 when the Jayhawks were ranked 19th before losing to Texas Tech.
Big 12 Conference teams in the poll include No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 24 Nebraska and No. 25 Kansas. Missouri received three votes in the poll.
KU will meet top-25 teams Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, as well as two teams receiving votes in Southern Mississippi and Missouri.
Earlier this preseason, Kansas was listed the equivalent of 26th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
