Kansas Volleyball Unveils 2012 Promotions

Aug. 22, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The second-most home volleyball matches in the Ray Bechard-era allowed the Kansas Athletics Marketing and Fan Experience staff to include several classic gameday promotions and mix in new ideas in its 2012 volleyball promotions schedule, released on Wednesday.

Gameday traditions such as Jay Days, Youth Volleyball Night and the Jayhawks for a Cure match are all included throughout this season’s 17 home matches, but new creations like Social Media Day and the Labor Day Pack add a unique feel to the 2012 schedule.

KU hosts a pair of tournaments and a non-conference match to open its home schedule, including the Kansas Volleyball Invitational, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, and the Jayhawk Invitational, Sept. 7-8. During the home-opening weekend, Kansas Athletics is offering the Labor Day Pack. The package includes a ticket to all three of the weekend’s volleyball matches, both soccer matches and the Jayhawks’ football season opener vs. South Dakota State – all for $50.

UMKC comes to Lawrence to rekindle its series with Kansas on Sept. 4 to break up back-to-back home tournaments. Students in attendance can get a $1 soda with their KU Student ID. Three days later, the Jayhawks invite all area youth volleyball teams in uniform to attend their Jayhawk Invitational match against Arizona State for only $3. The tournament comes to a close on Saturday evening with Salute to Service Day on which all military and first responders receive $3 admission with a valid ID.

Throughout the season, Wednesday matches are Jay Days with several concessions discounted to $2. Additionally, when KU plays host to Creighton in the first Wednesday match of the season, it will also mark Social Media Day. Fans who show proof of friendship with KU Athletics on Facebook or Twitter will be admitted for just $3. The volleyball camper reunion is set for Oct. 6 when Kansas hosts Baylor. Each camper gets in free with their camp voucher. In addition, the match is also Special Olympics Night that will include a scrimmage between the Special Olympians during the break.

Always a highly-supported cause, the Jayhawks for a Cure match is scheduled for Oct. 20 when the Jayhawks welcome TCU to the Horejsi Family Athletics Center for the first time. All fans wearing pink will be admitted for $3.

Perennial Big 12 powers Texas and Oklahoma provide the setting for the Jayhawks’ two-match Just Food Food Drive on Nov. 10 and Nov. 14, respectively. Fans with a donation to the food drive can watch the matches for $3 apiece. Kansas will close its home slate with Senior Day on Nov. 24. The Jayhawks welcome in Texas Tech for the final regular season match of the 2012 season.
