Downtown Block Party to Kick Off Football Season and Hawk Talk with Turner Gill

Kansas Athletics, The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Lawrence Inc. have partnered to host a block party on Massachusetts Street Thursday, September 2, from 5 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. The event will coincide with new head football coach Turner Gill’s first Hawk Talk radio show at Buffalo Wild Wings.

The 1000 block of Mass. Street will be closed to traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to accommodate the celebration.

Festivities will include a pep rally featuring Turner Gill, the KU Pep Band and spirit squad, a kid’s zone with inflatable games and a live broadcast of Hawk Talk with Turner Gill.

The kid’s zone will open at 5 p.m. Hawk Talk begins at 6 p.m. inside Buffalo Wild Wings. Following the live broadcast, Turner Gill will address the crowd outside the restaurant.

Hawk Talk takes place every Thursday night throughout the football season from 6-7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings. It is carried live on the Jayhawk Radio Network, including Lawrence’s KLWN.

Kansas Athletics, Lawrence Chamber and Downtown Lawrence Inc. will host a second pep rally on Thursday, October 21, to celebrate homecoming week and the October 23 homecoming game against Texas A&M.

The Jayhawks kick off the season in Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 4 at 6 p.m. against North Dakota State. Tickets can be purchased online at kuathletics.com, by calling 800-34-HAWKS, or by visiting the Athletics ticket office located on the Southeast corner of Allen Fieldhouse
