Kansas Volleyball Home Matches to Air on Jayhawk All-Access

Aug. 23, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Fans have watched the University of Kansas home volleyball matches on Jayhawk All-Access for the past six seasons, but the 2011 season will unveil the broadcast’s first-ever audio component.

Kyle West will be on the call to provide audio play-by-play for each of the Jayhawks’ home matches during the live-stream broadcasts, giving fans an enhanced experience when they are unable to make the trip to the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The premium All-Access content will be provided free of charge.

“We would love to have the fans here in person first and foremost,” head coach Ray Bechard said. “Many times that can’t happen, so to try to give the Horejsi experience to those who aren’t able make it here makes this really special.”

Fans can quickly locate each broadcast by logging onto kuathletics.com/AllAccess and clicking on the link on the “Live Events” tab or by visiting the volleyball schedule page.

For most of the home slate, West will be joined by former Jayhawk volleyball standouts who will provide color commentary. The 2007 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year, Katie Martincich, highlights the list. Martincich played for Kansas from 2005-09 and left a sizable legacy as a Jayhawk. The Shawnee, Kan., native was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree as well as twice being named a member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team.

After seeing her career come to a close in 2009, Martincich still ranks in KU’s all-time top-10 in single season and career assists, career digs and career sets played. Martincich will provide insight regarding her playing experiences and Bechard’s coaching style.

“It’s outstanding to have Katie,” Bechard said. “She’s someone that has represented this program as well as anybody over the years, plus she was the (Big 12) Sportsperson of the Year so you know she’s going to be fair. More than anything she loves Kansas and Kansas Athletics, so it will be a great addition for those people watching away from Horejsi.”

Kansas will open its home schedule on Sept. 2 when the team plays host to Belmont in Friday’s noon match of 2011 Jayhawk Invitational. KU will also take on Appalachian State and South Dakota State during its home tournament. Those matches are scheduled for Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. CT and Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. CT, respectively.
