LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas’ new women’s and men’s basketball practice facility saw its first action when the men’s team participated in individual drills Monday afternoon.

Adjacent and connected to the west side of historic Allen Fieldhouse, the facility features one and a half courts with seven goals for the KU basketball teams to use.

The building features the actual center court from the 2008 NCAA Final Four, which Kansas won, hanging on the practice facility’s west wall. Also on the west wall is a fully operational scoreboard. On the south wall there is “Kansas Jayhawks” in Trajan font followed by five national championship banners which the men’s basketball team has won – 1922, 1923, 1952, 1988 and 2008. The north wall features two second-floor balconies which KU head coaches Bonnie Henrickson and Bill Self could oversee any happenings on the new floor by just stepping outside their respective offices.

The practice facility is part of the Allen Fieldhouse, Wagnon Student Athlete Center and Parrott Building renovations which will be complete by Late Night in the Phog on October 16. Besides the new practice facility, other renovations which are currently in service include a new student-athlete support wing on the front of Anchutz Pavilion, new locker rooms for soccer, volleyball and softball and new administrative offices.
