LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Freshman Erin Ellefson scored the equalizing goal with 16 seconds remaining in regulation as the <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas soccer team completed its final tune up for the regular season with a 1-1 draw in an intersquad scrimmage played Saturday evening at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

With just seconds remaining, Ellefson lofted a high-arching shot from 30 yards away that eluded the goalkeeper and tied the score. Junior Sara Rogers was credited with an assist on the goal. Neither team was able to score in the 10-minute overtime period.

The teams were originally divided into potential starters and non-starters, however several players saw action for both sides during the exhibition. Nearly everybody on the KU roster saw time in the contest, as 25 of 29 active players took the field Saturday.

Sophomore Kim Boyer led the offensive effort with a game-high three shots and the first goal of the match. Boyer corralled a misplayed ball in the box and buried it in the 16th minute.

Goalkeepers Colleen Quinn, Julie Hanley and Stephanie Baugh all played minutes in net. Baugh, a sophomore transfer from West Virginia, had perhaps the most impressive save, with a diving stab of a Jessica Bush shot midway through the first half.

The 26th-ranked Jayhawks will open the regular season Friday at the University of Hawai’i at 12 a.m. CST (7 p.m. local time) and face Auburn the following evening. KU’s first home match is on Sept. 6 against Brigham Young at 5 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
