Kansas Soccer Earns National Ranking

Aug. 26, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

After posting a 3-0 win over then 20th-ranked Purdue on Friday, the University of Kansas soccer team found itself in the national rankings for the first time since the 2007 preseason.

The Jayhawks enter the Soccer America weekly poll ranked 25th in the country and are receiving votes in the Soccer Times polls.

Kansas opened the season last Friday with a convincing 3-0 triumph over then No. 20 Purdue at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. Three different Jayhawks scored goals in the win, including redshirt freshman Emily Cressy who recorded a goal and an assist in her first regular-season match.

KU has now earned a national ranking in each of the last six seasons, but has not held onto it longer than one week since early in the 2005 season. The Jayhawks were ranked in the Top 25 for 18 straight weeks from 2003 to 2005.

The 25th-ranked Jayhawks will play host to Auburn University Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
