Jayhawks Open Eight-Match Homestand Versus UMKC Tuesday

After opening its 2010 season undefeated in last weekend’s Bluejay Invitational, the Kansas volleyball team (3-0) will look to open its season 4-0 for the first time since 2005 when it welcomes UMKC (1-2) for a 6:30 p.m. match on Tuesday, Aug. 31. It is the first of eight-straight home matches for the Jayhawks.

Senior outside hitter Karina Garlington earned MVP honors last weekend for leading the Jayhawks with 4.00 kills per set on a .290 attack percentage during the tournament. Junior outside hitter Allison Mayfield was also selected to the all-tournament team for averaging 3.73 kps and 2.91 digs per set.

Several newcomers made their collegiate debuts including starting freshman Brianne Riley at libero, Kara Wehrs at setter and redshirt freshman Caroline Jarmoc at middle blocker.

Riley paced KU on defense digging up 3.73 balls per set. Wehrs guided the offense handing out 10.55 assists per set. Jarmoc was equally effective on defense averaging 1.36 blocks per set. She also dominated from the service line recording seven aces during the tournament, including five versus San Francisco.
