KU Hosts Jayhawk Classic This Weekend

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The Kansas volleyball team hosts the Jayhawk Classic this weekend in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. KU (4-3 overall) is slated to play Friday against St. Peter’s (noon) and Wyoming (7 p.m.) and will wrap up the tournament Saturday in a noon match versus Morehead State.

The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas volleyball team will enter the Jayhawk Classic on a two game winning
streak and 4-3 overall record. KU opened its 2007 home season last Tuesday
with a 3-0 sweep over UMKC. Savannah Noyes led the team with 10 kills.
Freshman Karina Garlington added seven hitting a team-best .462.
Newcomer Jenna Kaiser continues to lead KU for the third straight week averaging
2.48 kpg. Fellow freshman Melissa Manda steadies the defense with 3.31
dpg.
Parents Night!
Friday night the parents of Kansas volleyball players will be recognized in a special presentation prior to the 7 p.m. match between KU and Wyoming.
Jayhawk Classic History
– The 2007 Jayhawk Classic marks the 14th year of the tournament and 11th
consecutive since its inaugural start in 1990.
– Kansas owns a 32-8 all-time record during the Jayhawk Classic and has gone
undefeated in the tournament seven times, most recently in 2005.
Breaking In
Senior Emily Brown broke into KU’s top-10 career list Tuesday in the team’s
contest versus UMKC. Brown registered three kills to giver her 938 for her career and move her into the number 10 spot on the Kansas career kill list.
The First 30
It appears that game one is the most critical for the Jayhawks. KU has come
away victorious in every match but one when they record a win in the opening
game. Of Kansas’ three losses, the team has lost game one two of the three
times.
