Jayhawks Start Strong at Jayhawk Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Behind the strength of sophomore Karina Garlington’s match-high and career-best 15 kills, the Kansas Jayhawks (2-1) defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines (0-3) 3-0 in the first round of competition of the Jayhawk Invitational Friday afternoon. KU swept the Wolverines by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20.

Garlington broke her career best record of 14 kills, which she tied last weekend at the VCU Invitational. She also served the last three points of the third set, including the match-winning service ace.

Sophomore Melissa Manda led the team in digs with nine and in service aces with four. Senior Natalie Uhart chipped in seven kills with a .636 hitting percentage on no errors in 11 attempts.

The Jayhawks are in action again tonight when they take on the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks in Horejsi Family Athletics Center at 7 p.m.
