Special Spectators and KU to Host Youngsters from Children's Mercy Hospital Saturday

Sept. 8, 2005

Special Spectators and the University of Kansas Athletic Department will host children from Children’s Mercy Hospital during the Jayhawks’ football game against Appalachian State on September 10, 2005.

The kids’ attendance at the game is in conjunction with the Kansas football team’s participation in Special Spectators, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization. Special Spectators, in partnership with Division 1-A football programs and children’s hospitals, coordinates a day of fun and excitement for seriously ill children and their parents at a college football game while exposing student-athletes to the inspiration and reward of making a powerful contribution to the community by visiting children’s hospitals and pediatric units.

Through the Jayhawks’ generous involvement in Special Spectators, children from Children’s Mercy Hospital will attend a special tailgate on The Hill and watch the Jayhawks in action as they face the Appalachian State Mountaineers at Memorial Stadium.

Location of the Special Spectators tent for Saturday is south of the Memorial Stadium scoreboard, where other tailgating tents are located. To learn more about Special Spectators visit www.SpecialSpectators.org.
