Morozova, Windom Invited to Compete at ITA All-American Championships

Sept. 9, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Senior Ekaterina Morozova and sophomore Dylan Windom have been selected as a doubles team to the main draw of the 2011 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Tennis Championships, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Friday. Morozova also earned a spot in the qualifying singles draw.

The Championships begin on Oct. 1 with two days of singles and doubles pre-qualifying play on the campus of UCLA. Qualifying will then run Oct. 4-5 in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and the main draws will take place on Oct. 6-9.

Morozova and Windom become the first University of Kansas tennis athletes to be selected straight to the main draw since Eveline Hamers qualified in 1990.

“The hard work that Kate and Dylan put in last year is what got them into this tournament this year,” Kansas head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “This is an unbelievable opportunity for both of them and I hope they embrace it. If they embrace this with passion, they can do very well. It shows that this program is going in the right direction, so this is not just good for them, but for the University of Kansas.”

The team will be one of 24 tandems in the main draw, which will consist of: seven at-large (and wild card) selections, four teams from the Qualifying tournament, the ITA National Summer Championships Champions and one team from each region.

Last season, Morozova and Windom ended the season ranked fifth in the Central Region and No. 67 nationally by ITA. The duo went 15-7 in No. 1 doubles play, including a 6-5 record in the Big 12 and a 2-1 record against nationally-ranked opponents. They were also named to the All-Big 12 Doubles Team.

KU’s No. 1 doubles pair was also invited to the prequalifying doubles round of the 2010 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Tennis Championships, marking the first KU team since 2007 to be invited to the elite event.

Selection into the ITA All-American Championships is highlycompetitive and based ITA National Rankings and recommendations from the ITA National Tournament Committee.

Kansas is set to open its fall season on Sept. 16 with the three-day KU Tournament at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan. Please check back with kuathletics.com for full results from the event.
