Jayhawks in fifth at Chip-N Club Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – <>< b=””>The University of Kansas women’s golf team is currently in fifth place in a 19-team field following rounds one and two on Monday at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational. Kansas’ total score is 618 (313-305) after the first day of play at Woodland Hills Golf Club (6,079-yard, par 71) in Lincoln, Neb.

Texas State is leading the tournament with a total score of 598, while Big 12 rival Kansas State sits close behind in second place with 599. Kansas is just two strokes behind the fourth-place team, Nebraska, who has won the tournament the past four years.

Sophomore Emily Powers is leading the way for the Jayhawks and is currently in a tie for eighth place with a total score of 149 (76-73). Senior Annie Giangrosso is tied for 14th with 153 (77-76) after rounds one and two.

Freshman Grace Thiry, who is competing unattached, is sitting in a tie for 25th after tallying a total score of 156 (82-74). Close behind is fellow freshman, Meghna Bal, who is currently in a tie for 29th with 157 (76-81). Sophomore Meghan Gockel is also in a tie for 36th after shooting a combined score of 160 (85-75) in the first two rounds of play. Rounding out the team performance for the Jayhawks is freshman Sydney Wilson. The Lawrence native is currently tied for 70th after compiling a total score of 166 (84-82).

The Jayhawks will begin the final round Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
