Jayhawks to Open Season at Chip-N-Club Invitational

Sept. 11, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Kansas women’s golf team opens the 2008 fall season at the Chip-N-Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 15-16. The tournament is hosted by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

The Jayhawks competed in last year’s tournament, which was held at Woodland Hills Golf Course, also in Lincoln. Lead by a 10th place individual finish from Emily Powers, the team placed fifth with a composite score of 921. The Jayhawks will be led this year by junior Emily Powers, whose 75.53 scoring average was the lowest on the team last season. Powers, a member of the 2008 All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team, fired a 224 in last year’s Chip-N-Club Invitational, which was good for a 10th place finish.

Powers will be joined by junior Meghan Gockel, sophomores Meghna Bal and Grace Thiry and redshirt sophomore Sydney Wilson. Sophomore Jennifer Clark and freshman Kalynd Carson (The Woodlands, Texas) will compete in the event as individuals. Wilderness Ridge Golf Course (par-72, 6,068 yards) is hosting the event for the first time since 2005. The hosting Nebraska Cornhuskers have won four of the past five Chip-N-Club Invitational team titles.

The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes played Monday, Sept. 15, with the final 18 holes being completed on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Check back to kuathletics.com for results and a complete recap upon the conclusion of both days of the tournament.
