Women's golf finishes eighth at Ron Moore Intercollegiate

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – Emily Powers fired a five-under-par 67 in the final round to propel the University of Kansas women’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at Highlands Ranch Golf Club (6,518-yard, par 72) in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Tuesday. The sophomore from Quincy, Ill., tied for seventh, carding a three-round score of 221, marking her second top-10 finish this season.
The Jayhawks recorded a final-round score of 294, besting their previous two rounds by 14 strokes, to move up four spots on the leaderboard from first-round play on Monday.
Senior Annie Giangrosso carded a 77 in the third round to tie for 26th place with an overall score of 227. Freshman Meghna Bal fired a tournament-best third-round score of 73, earning her best composite mark of the season at 234. The New Delhi, India native finished in a tie for 36th.
KU Sophomore Meghan Gockel and freshman Grace Thiry each carded rounds of 77 Tuesday to tie for 64th and 71st place, respectively.
Host, University of Denver claimed both team and individual first-place honors. Big 12 opponent, Baylor, finished nine strokes behind the pace to finish in second, while Iowa State and Nebraska also earned top-10 team finishes.
The Jayhawks will next be in action when they travel to Manhattan, Kan., to compete in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Oct. 1-2. Kansas will attempt to defend its tournament crown from last year, when the Jayhawks won the Invite by 14 strokes over runner-up Notre Dame.
