Kansas Men's Golf In First At 2005 Kansas Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The University of Kansas men’s golf team is in first place, in a 17-team field, after two rounds of the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Kansas opened the two-day tournament with a first round total of 286, then followed with a second round score of 277 for a two-round total of 563 (-13) on the 7,092 yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Club.
“I am very happy with the way we finished today,” head coach Ross Randall said. “If we can play the same way tomorrow that we did in the second round, I think we have a good shot.”
Kansas leads Tulsa by two strokes heading into tomorrow’s play.
In team competition, junior Gary Woodland leads the the tournament with a nine-under 135 after rounds of 69 and 66. Freshman Zach Pederson is tied for fourth with a 140 after carding rounds of 71 and 69, respectively. Senior Pete Krsnich is tied for 30th after shooting 74 and 71 for a combined total of 145. Junior Tyler Docking is tied for 43rd after carding rounds of 76 and 71 for a combined score of 147. Senior Luke Trammell is also tied for 43rd after rounds of 72 and 75.
Five Jayhawks are competing on an individual basis, and are led by senior Ryan Rainer, who shot rounds of 70 and 73 for a share of 13th place with a total of 143. Junior Barrett Martens is in a tie for 30th after rounds of 75 and 70 gave him a combined score of 145. Senior Jason Sigler is tied for 55th after rounds of 76 and 73 gave him a total of 149. Sophomore Joey Mundy is also tied for 55th after carding rounds of 75 and 74 for a combined score of 149. Freshman Walt Koelbel is in 85th after rounds of 80 and 77 gave him a total of 157.
Kansas will finish tournament action, Tuesday Sept. 20, in the third round of the Kansas Invitational. A shotgun tee-time is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
