Kansas Soccer Maintains High National Rankings

Sept. 23, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas soccer team maintained its high national ranking this week, as the Jayhawks prepare to enter Big 12 Conference play this weekend. Last week, Kansas dropped its first match of the season to No. 10 Illinois on the road, but rebounded to post a pair of wins over the weekend and improve its record to 8-1.

In the NSCAA/Adidas Top 25, KU remained in the No. 8 spot, the highest of any Big 12 team in the poll. SoccerBuzz magazine dropped the Jayhawks two spots from No. 6 to No. 8, while in the Soccer America Top 25, KU slid six spots from No. 7 to No. 13. KU also fell one spot from No. 10 to No. 11 in this week’s edition of the Soccer Times Top 25.

In the Central regional rankings, which are released weekly by both NSCAA/Adidas and SoccerBuzz, the Jayhawks remain in the top spot ahead of Big 12 rivals Texas A&M, Texas and Nebraska.

Kansas will begin Big 12 Conference play this week when it hosts the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Friday, at 5 p.m. and the defending Big 12 Champion Colorado Buffaloes, Sunday, at 1 p.m. in matches at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex on the KU campus.
