Jayhawks in the Pros #7

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After three weeks of the National Football League season, six Jayhawks remain on NFL rosters with several of them making an impact for their teams. This week’s Jayhawks in the Pros is highlighted by Aqib Talib’s interception and seven tackles against the Cowboys and Chris Harris’ four stops against Houston. Along with the six in the NFL, running back Jon Cornish and wide receiver Marcus Henry are also starting players in the Canadian Football League.

Dezmon Briscoe
Wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe is in his third season in the NFL and first with the Washington Redskins. Briscoe played in his second game with the Redskins Sunday, a 38-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but did not record any stats. Briscoe has played in two games this season, but is still looking for his first catch in a Washington uniform. He signed with the Redskins after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in late July. In his two NFL seasons, Briscoe has played in 19 games and tallied 41 catches for 480 yards and seven touchdowns. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Anthony Collins
Offensive tackle Anthony Collins is in his fifth season in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. Collins was in uniform, but did not play in Cincinnati’s 38-31 victory over the Washington Redskins Sunday at FedEx Field. Collins has not played in any of the Bengals’ games this season, missing the first one with an injury. He has played in 39 games in his NFL career and made 18 starts at offensive tackle. Collins was originally a fourth-round selection by Cincinnati in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Chris Harris
Cornerback Chris Harris is in his second season with the Denver Broncos.Harris returned from an ankle injury to play in Sunday’s 31-26 loss to the Houston Texans. The second-year corner made four tackles and recorded a pass breakup in the game. Harris has played in 18 games in his NFL career, making four starts at cornerback. He has recorded 80 tackles, broken up seven passes and made one interception. Harris signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 NFL Draft.

Steven Johnson
Linebacker Steven Johnson is in his first season with the Denver Broncos after making the team as an undrafted free agent. Johnson was inactive for Sunday’s game at Mile High Stadium, a 31-26 loss to the Houston Texans. He has played in one of Denver’s first three games this season. Johnson was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft in April.

Darrell Stuckey
Safety Darrell Stuckey is in his third season with the San Diego Chargers. Stuckey played on special teams in San Diego’s 27-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday. He has played in all three of the Chargers’ games this season and has three tackles. In his career, Stuckey has played in 18 games and made 16 tackles. Stuckey was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Aqib Talib
Cornerback Aqib Talib is in his fifth season in the NFL and fourth as a starting corner for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For the second-straight game, Talib enjoyed success on the defensive side, recording an interception, seven tackles and a pass breakup. However, despite his efforts, Tampa Bay fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 16-10 on Sunday. This season, Talib has started all three games for the Bucs and made 18 tackles with six pass breakups and an interception. In his career, the former KU All-American has made 179 tackles, recorded 52 pass breakups and 18 interceptions. He was a first-round pick by Tampa Bay in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Jon Cornish
Tailback Jon Cornish is in his sixth CFL season, all with the Calgary Stampeders. Cornish rushed for 67 yards on 12 carries in Calgary’s 30-25 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Sunday. This season, “Kid Canada” has rushed for 947 yards on 162 carries with seven touchdowns on the ground. He has also recorded 24 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. In his six-year career, Cornish has rushed for 2,817 yards and 19 touchdowns to go along with 74 catches for 488 yards and five receiving touchdowns. He signed with Calgary following the end of his KU career in 2007.

Marcus Henry
Wide receiver Marcus Henry is in his second year in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos. Henry recorded two catches for 15 yards in the Eskimos’ 19-18 loss to the B.C. Lions Saturday. In three games this season, Henry has recorded 12 catches for 147 yards. In his CFL career, Henry has recorded 45 catches for 531 yards and a touchdown. He signed with Edmonton during the 2011 NFL season after being released by the New York Jets in training camp.
