Tennis Completes Day Two of Invitational

Tulsa, Okla. – Led by freshmen Lauren Hommell and Stephanie Smith, the University of Kansas tennis team completed day two of the Hurricane Invitational at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Hommell and Smith provided the lone Jayhawk victories on the day as the team went 2-3 in singles and 0-2 in doubles.

It took both Hommell and Smith three sets to claim victories, as Hommell defeated Illinois State’s Carolyne Parent, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, while Smith notched a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Veronique Parke-Bedard of ISU. Junior Luiza Loureiro dropped a hard fought match against ISU’s Ashley Maxwell, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles competition, the team of Hommell and junior Christine Skoda dropped their match to the Tulsa duo of Daniela Muscolino and Carla Zabaleta, 8-4. Smith and sophomore Ashley Filberth were blanked by Lisette Pereira and Santie Delport of Tulsa, 8-0.
