LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 21 Kansas volleyball team was swept by undefeated No. 22 Texas Saturday night at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Longhorns stunned the Jayhawks in front of a home crowd of 1,250 by scores of 30-24, 30-20 and 30-15.

With the loss, the Jayhawks fell to 10-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 Conference action, while the Longhorns improved to 11-0 and 4-0 in the league. The loss was KU’s first at home this season.

Junior Paula Caten led KU with a career-best 11 kills in 28 attempts and added six digs. Junior Josi Lima added nine kills and team-best five blocks assists while freshman Emily Brown and senior Ashley Michaels added seven kills apiece.

Libero Jill Dorsey had a match-high 13 digs and setter Andi Rozum dished out 33 assists in the losing effort. KU hit a season-low .099 at the net and was out-blocked by the Longhorns 11.0 to 6.0. The Jayhawks also had seven reception and five service errors.

The Longhorns were led by Bethany Howden’s 17 kills (on a .630 attack percentage) and six block assists. Four Texas players notched eight or more digs in the win.

“We got run over tonight — Texas played a very high level,” KU head coach Ray Bechard said. “They were more prepared and executed their game plan better than we did. We were just waiting for something to change and it never did. Texas is underrated and should be a top-10 team. It doesn’t get any easier with Nebraska coming in here next.”

KU will next be in action at Horejsi at 7 p.m. Wednesday as it takes on No. 7 Nebraska (9-1, 4-0 Big 12).
