Jayhawks To Compete in Cardinal Intercollegiate

Sept. 25, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf will continue its fall season with a tournament for the third-straight week when it competes in the Cardinal Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the Cardinal Club Golf Course in Simpsonville, Ky.

Senior Doug Quinones, juniors Chris Gilbert, Alex Gutesha and Paul Harris, and freshman Dylan McClure will represent the Jayhawks at the tournament hosted by Louisville. Last week, Harris paced the team with an 11th-place finish at the Kansas Invitational, while Gilbert, Gutesha and McClure all tied for 15th.

“We’re trying to build on what we did last week,” said Kansas head coach Kit Grove. “We had four guys play pretty consistent golf, but nobody really stepped up. We’re looking for a little bit of a spark.”

The Jayhawks will play 36 holes Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday on the par 72, 7,036-yard course. Each day will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern). The Cardinal Intercollegiate will mark the largest field KU has been a part of thus far in the fall season, as 18 teams will participate in the event.

Joining the Jayhawks and Louisville will be Arkansas-Little Rock, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Dayton, DePaul, Eastern Kentucky, Francis Marion, Illinois State, Marquette, Marshall, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Illinois, Rutgers and Wisconsin.
