Davis Named to Wade Watch List

Sept. 27, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s basketball junior Carolyn Davis is one of four Big 12 Conference players named to the 2011-12 Preseason “Wade Watch” list for the State Farm Wade Trophy, which is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year.

The 25-member preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I student-athletes from 17 institutions and seven conferences who best embody the late Lily Margaret Wade’s spirit. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.

Davis, a 6-foot-3 forward, was an All-Big 12 First Team selection last season, only the third Kansas player in the last six years to garner such honors, after ranking second in the nation with a 66.0 field goal percentage to lead the Big 12 for the second-straight season. Davis was also one of four league players to rank in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding in 2010-11 as she led KU with 19.0 points and 7.4 boards per game. The Houston, Texas native had five games in which she scored 30 or more points last season and was invited to try out for the USA World University Games Team over the summer.

Now in its 35th year, the State Farm Wade Trophy is named after the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. The prestigious award, regarded as “The Heisman of Women’s Basketball,” is presented by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA.

The 2012 State Farm Wade Trophy winner will be announced during the WBCA National Convention, which will be held in conjunction with the 2012 NCAA® Women’s Final Four® in Denver.
