Chesang Named Big 12 Runner of the Week

Sept. 28, 2004

DALLAS – University of Kansas cross country sophomore Benson Chesang has been named the Big 12 Conference runner of the week for his performance in the Roy Griak Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.

Chesang was competing in his first race of the season and his 11th place finish (24:38) out of 223 runners in the 8k race helped the Jayhawks to a 10th place finish out of 25 teams.

“That race was a great start for Benson,” Kansas head coach Stanley Redwine said. “It shows you what kind of competitor he is by doing that well in his first race of the season.”

Chesang is the Jayhawk’s top runner. Last season he was the lone NCAA qualifier for the Crimson and Blue, finishing 48th at the NCAA championships. Saturday (Oct. 2), Kansas will travel to Stillwater, Okla, to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree.
