LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas baseball team opened “Fall Ball” this weekend at Hoglund Ballpark. The team has been divided into two teams for the Fall Ball season, Kansas and the Jayhawks. The teams split a pair of games over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks defeated Kansas, 4-3 with a two-out RBI single from junior college transfer Joe Southers. The catcher’s base hit plated freshman Steve Cochran, who had led off the inning with a double.

The game featured home runs by Eric Morrison, John Allman, Brian Heere and Kevin Bedford. Freshman pitcher Bret Bochy struck out four in two innings of work.

On Sunday, catcher Joe Servais homered and Cochran, Allman and Heere collected two hits a piece. While freshman Thomas Marcin earned the win for Kansas, pitching three innings and allowing just one unearned run.
